Gadget Blog News – Week 37 – Galaxy Gear Smart Watch, New iPhones and Slimfold
Samsung Galaxy Gear Smart Watch
Ah the world of the smartwatch – ever increasing and there is another latest gadget to add to the ever growing collection. Samsung have swung into action and delivered the Galaxy Gear Smart Watch – released in Berlin last week, Samsung has beaten many of the big players to the punch and it will be available to buy before the end of the month. However hold your horses as this is not a completely independent device, it needs to be paired with an existing Samsung product – nice try Samsung you nearly had us there! Good news I suppose if you’ve already got a Samsung smartphone but would mean some fairly serious investment if you’re completely new. It will have a 320 x 320 resolution, it will be able to make and receive calls as well as having a 1.9 MP camera – naturally it will integrate with Facebook and Twitter too.
As I’m sure you’re all aware, Apple has done it’s latest press conference and unveiled not one but two new iPhones as well as iOS7 – all very exciting(!). So, first up is the new iPhone proper – the 5S – and the camera has been improved, with a more sensitive flash meaning that shots taken in dark places should be much improved. Touch ID is the feature that everyone (including gadgets blog) is talking about, as Apple have finally introduced a fingerprint reader, with the home button featuring the reader which will allow users to ditch lock codes and simply use their digit, iTunes will also have this facility removing that annoying need to put your password in when spending your hard earned. The 5S will of course be faster and have a longer battery life – all the things you’d expect from a new smartphone.
Now the 5C is a slight change in plan from Apple as they have produced a budget version of the iPhone – mainly aimed at the Chinese market – this is meant to be aimed at the ‘cheap’ end of the market – although it comes in at a rumoured £469 – Apple must have a different idea of cheap to us! The main selling point of the 5C (price apart) seems to be the colourful plastic backs, available in green, yellow, blue, white or pink. I’d treat this device with caution if I were you…
Slimfold – the World’s slimmest wallet!
As usual on gadgets blog we don’t just do gadget reviews – sometimes we like to feature upcoming technology and kickstarter is a great place for such things. This week we take a look at the Slimfold wallet which frankly looks brilliant. It is made from Tyvek (nope us neither) and is 100% recyclable, it can hold 8-12 cards as well as hard cash and it looks to be an excellently designed product. They were aiming for $8,000 of funding but have absolutely smashed that barrier and are currently at about $75,000! Gadgets Blog liked it so much that we’ve just bought one for ourselves!
